Up ] Samurai Gears ] [ 2nd Transmission ] 5.0 Upgrade ]

I have had lots of questions about how I made the double-transmission setup work. It was actually pretty easy.

We used the short driveshaft that the Samurai had between the transmission and transfer case and the clutch center (called the hub) from the T-90 to fabricate a drive shaft for the second transmission. I was given lots of help from Y.C. Hudson, President of Southern Clutch & Supply, Inc. (6713 Old Rutledge Pk., Knoxville, TN 37924, 865/525-6278) to get the correct hub to make this work.

Complete driveshaft.

Part going to 2nd Transmission.

Part going to Samurai transmission.

This second transmission and transfer case originally came from a 1947 Willy's tuck. During the assembly, we failed to cover a pin that the bell housing would normally cover. On one trip to Tellico (DixieRun 1999), the pin slipped forward, causing great harm to the gears inside the transmission. I replaced the transmission and transfer case with an identical setup from a Scout.
